In trying to understand this piece and where it should go next, I'd like us to think on a few things for Monday:
1. What are the possibilities of crystalizing the design as a make-shift TV studio?
2. What are the benefits to using two spaces, and how can we maximize them?
3. What does our acting style need to be to support our idea?
4. Are there possibilities for additional text from other sources to weave in that might clarify, or flesh out, the worlds we're building?
Feel free to use the discussion tab to jot down thoughts, and we'll talk further Monday!
Katie
P.S. Check out the Youtube video I posted. It's from The Comeback (a brilliant one-season HBO show — if you haven't watched, it watch it) and the first minute of it is a reality TV show diary set-up, with multiple takes... possibly a good model for Meph...
NOTES
We're crystallized the desire to escape as desire for nature.
Where does Meph seem to be? In nature? On vacation? It should be beautiful.
Ross should be performing live, not prerecorded, so the rooms can interact.
Faust is the audience in the reception area — no other actors there?
Pre-roll vs. on camera time — other actor as puppeteer
Does Meph ever pause the recording?
Using the camera to tell a lie
Styles of acting: Total naturalism to deceive the audience?
